Quality control

MSTU (Moscow): Kazbanov – Zubov, Rokhin - Ganenko, Piskarev – Shchadilov, Dragunov/Ishakov

"Gazprom-Ugra" (Surgut): Kirillov – Papazov, Shevlyakov – Kurbatov, Rodychev is Masko, Nagaec

The Surgut team started the match with two breaks on Maxim Kirillov's serve, but then the block blocked Papazov’s attack, and Rohin made an ace - we didn’t believe it, that the ball will hit the line (2:3). The hosts began to tidy up the initiative: Iskhakov drags Shevlyakov's blow, Zubov counterattacks, Piskarev copes with Rodichev’s attack – Zubov is right there again, 3:6. Second block of MSTU, this time on Masko, brings the gap to minus 4 (8:12).

The score went in the opposite direction on Papazov's serves. ace is 12:14. They fought off Zubov and Kurbatov covers Ganenko, 13:14. Shchadilov knocked down the move and did not beat the Surgut team’s block on the allocated ball, 14:14. Zubov block, Shchadilov's discount to the antenna – 16:14. This segment cost the students dearly. All they could do was catch up with Gazprom-Yugra at the 20:20. Papazov’s attack on the emergency ball and block on Piskarev give us a decisive advantage, 22:20, which we carried to the end of the set. Kurbatov hit the decisive ball without blocking, 25:23.

In the second set we, without achieving any significant superiority, Nevertheless, controlled the game. MSTU periodically caught up with us in the score (5:5, 7:7, 12:12), but I couldn’t get ahead. A funny thing happened when Rudnev came out with a special mission on duty - an excellent attempt knocked out the main target of the day Shchadilov, the ball flew over to our side along a high trajectory and landed exactly in line. Repin's painting "We Didn't Expect", 16:16. It was possible to break down psychologically here, but ours survived: fought off three attacks by Piskarev in a row, and Papazov picked up the deflected ball between the block and the net, 18:17. MSTU received excellent reception and attacked cleanly with a high percentage, but the residents of Surgut found the necessary counterarguments, were a little more careful on the net and a little more active in defense. Kirillov plasters – Papazov scores, 20:18. Rodichev pulls out “four by four”, 21:19. But Ganenko is withdrawing, Piskarev throws a powerful serve - and Papazova is overtaken by a block, 21:21.

The endgame is like a carbon copy of the first set: we are again a little better on the net - Rodichev scores, but Shchadilov did not throw the block, 23:21. Well, then there’s the exchange of “hire for rent” with Masko’s final attack on the edge of the block, 25:23. In volleyball on the topic “who will play cleaner”, we find small gaps in the opponent’s game and at the right moment we make a small, but enough difference to win.

In the third set we confidently went forward: 6:4 at the end of a long rally with an attack from Rodichev, Rohin hits out - 8:5. For unknown reasons, Kazbanov forgot about Zubov and began actively feeding the center of the net - with varying success. Even when we fail at the reception, the block helps out at the first tempo – 10:7 after the next “closure” of Ganenko. We have a lot of errors in the submission, which makes it impossible to finally escape. Addressing this disadvantage, Surgut residents are shifting their focus to feed control, allowing students to invent something themselves with good refinement. Kazbanov finally gave it to Zubov - but it’s inconvenient, aut, 14:11. Onishchenko comes out to pass and begins to load the diagonal. However, maybe the quality of the broadcasts was unusual, either Nikolai has stagnated, but we coped with his blows time after time and responded effectively, 16:12 after the end game Masko.

Then Artem had his own difficult times in attack. Collecting two blocks, Our finisher, looking for his fingers, is obviously out of touch. The opponent seems to have gotten closer, 17:16, but video viewing records a barely noticeable touch - thanks to Nikita Nagaits, insistent on the challenge. Getting a shake-up, our guys accelerated sharply, Fortunately, this was facilitated by the low quality of Onishchenko’s broadcasts - 21:15, Zubov has finally “fed up”, and Masko is tireless, plus Shevlyakov closes Rokhina.

Temporary failure of Kirillov - an adventurous pass to Shevlyakov and an outgoing pass to Papazov (21:17) forced the Gazprom-Yugra coaching staff to take a timeout to cool their heads. Shevlyakov is removed, and the next portion of Onishchenko’s marriage gives Papazov a chance, 24:17. Kazbanov's return is clearly overdue: Masko serves out, but Rodichev confidently fights back from the block, 25:18.

The victory at the start of the second round was somewhat reminiscent of the first win against MSTU at the start of the season in Surgut. The same three games, the same stubborn struggle, except that this time the third set was much easier for us. Three points, sixth win, which allowed our team to bypass Kuzbass in the standings and rise to 10th place. Good, a working victory in ball control and the situation on the court in general. And a more severe test in Orenburg is just around the corner.
